When data, security & free speech collide.
I cannot begin to explain how incredibly worried I am by what I have been witnessing online these last few weeks.
The misinformation & disinformation that was an annoyance before, has taken a distinctly disturbing turn for the worse.
The attack on #lawtube, the defamation of Nate the Lawyer followed by the suspension of Nick Rekieta, combined with the goading, gaslighting, and bullying all seemingly with Twitter's blessing.
This happening whilst Twitter's former Head of Security, Peiter Zatko turned whistleblower testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the holes in Twitter's security systems.
Whilst thousands rise up to complain to Twitter and various data protection authorities around the world. Asking for answers as to how and why our data has been been used. We have to wait, for someone to take action against said data breaches, targeted harassment, bullying and doxxing. But when, when does it stop? Because Twitter is silent. The data authorities 'have teeth' but any action can take years to implement.
All this, because we have a different opinion. That's the crime we commit here. You think differently, you'll be mass flagged and your private details handed over to the mainstream media. The media who are meant to protect the public from this exact behavior.
I have wanted to write this story as I've watched it unfold, but have been legitimately worried about how that paints a target on my back. Not just on Twitter, or YouTube or any other platform. But also what impact that has on my family, my loved ones.
I hope that by opening this community I can offer a safe space for others to share.
Sending you all much love
